FRONTERA TRAIL STAGE 8A 491 A 459
This will be a special stage, many fields and urban in many aspects, which will lead us to get lost in many corners of Puigcerdà. Start of the stage in Palau de Cerdanya, we will cross the Palau plain and then pass through the fields of Age, until we find the first bridge that crosses the Segre. Later we will go to the Reür bridge and we will go back to complete the mugues on the other side of the Reür, because it is at this point that it meets the Segre river. We undo the path and go up the Reür on the French side to the Guingueta d’Ix (Bourg Madame), to the Llívia bridge, we will do a series of fields through the area of Ansaneres, passing by the Torre Gelbert, a farmhouse from the 19th century that consists of different buildings, a watchtower,… curiously this estate is divided by the French border.
We will go to look for the railway line from Barcelona to Torre de Querol, the so-called Trans-Pyrenean Railway, which was born with the idea of communicating with the French network, but the difficulty of its works delayed its construction for many years. In 1929 the route was extended to the international station of Torre de Querol to connect with the new French trans-Pyrenean line (Línia del Pimorent) and with the narrow gauge railway of Vilafranca del Conflent (El Tren Groc). We will cross the Querol river to go towards the Serrat de Sant Miquel, then go to find the path from Saneja to Torre de Querol and end the stage at +455 halfway between Saneja and Guils de Cerdanya.
