01About the place
Remains of a small medieval castle at the end of a ridge above the confluence of the Cistella and Manol streams, about 2 km west of Vilanant.
It is identified as the castle of the Escales lineage, documented in the 13th century, and retains a badly deteriorated cylindrical tower about 8 m high, with the vaulted ceiling of the ground floor. It is a listed cultural asset of national interest.
