The Mirador del Fraile (Friar's Viewpoint) is, for many, the most impressive viewpoint in Aldeadávila, along with the Picón de Felipe.
What makes it special is not only the view, but the sensation of being suspended over the Duero canyon.
A few years ago, a modern Corten steel walkway was built that juts out over the void. It has a height of about 12 meters and offers a rather vertigo-inducing sensation, especially if you approach the end.
The name comes from a rock known as "La Silla del Fraile" (The Friar's Chair). Tradition says that from there, Franciscan monks observed the La Verde valley and its orchards.
From there you can see:
* The impressive Aldeadávila Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric projects in Spain.
* The deep canyon carved by the Duero River, with granite walls that drop hundreds of meters to the water.
* The surroundings of the Arribes del Duero Natural Park, including the Portuguese slopes on the other side of the river. * It is common to see griffon vultures, eagles and other birds of prey taking advantage of the air currents.
