The hermitage in Yecla de Yeltes (Salamanca) is particularly interesting because it is located within the ancient Vettonian hill fort of Yecla la Vieja, an impressive pre-Roman walled enclosure next to the Yeltes River.
The Hermitage of the Virgin of the Castle in Yecla de Yeltes has something very special: it is not simply on a hill or on the outskirts of the town, but within the ancient Vettonian hill fort of Yecla la Vieja, a fortified settlement with more than two thousand years of history. The hermitage is practically the only building that remains standing within the walled enclosure.
