01About the place
A circular watchtower on the summit of Montgó, east of the old town of l'Escala (Alt Empordà), overlooking the coast.
It was commissioned by Philip II in 1598, with master builder Pere Abril, to defend the coast from pirates; it has a sloping base, a ground floor, and two vaulted upper floors, and has been restored and declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest.
