01About the place
Remains of a French military battery near the Coll dels Gascons pass, on the northern slopes of the Albera mountain range, between Banyuls de la Marenda and Port-Vendres.
It was built between 1883 and 1886 as part of the defensive system erected after the Franco-Prussian War, as was the nearby Taillefer battery. The GR 10 long-distance trail climbs from here to the Madeloc tower, a signal tower dating from 1285 that was later reinforced as an observation post.
