01About the place
An isolated castle on a rocky hill about 2 km north of Vilajuïga (Alt Empordà), next to the N-260.
Mentioned in 1078 in the will of Count Ponç I of Empúries, it was attacked by the French in 1285 and 1288, rebuilt in the 15th century, and ordered demolished by Marshal Suchet upon the withdrawal of Napoleonic troops. Today it is a privately owned ruin.
