The Capellans Oak is one of the most important specimens of Quercus pubescens in Catalonia.
It is part of the Generalitat's Catalogue of Monumental Trees.
The legend that gives the tree its name explains that, many years ago, eight priests tried to hug it at the same time and failed. And it is no wonder: it is the oak with the most barrel vault in all of Catalonia.
This Quercus, despite its monumental character, is already carrying the weight of centuries. It is currently in a state of decline, and for this reason it is highly recommended to visit it before the passage of time marks it even more; before another monumental branch ends up falling with force onto the damp ground of the forests of Alta Garrotxa.
If you are planning to go there, you must take into account the restrictions on motorized traffic: from June to September, traffic is prohibited up to the oak. However, you can get there on foot or by bicycle.
Another element that is well worth visiting is the Font del Bac, also known as Font del Roure, which you will find just before reaching Quercus. It is possibly one of the best springs in the whole of Alta Garrotxa: pure water flows there all year round and constantly, which allows amphibians and many other species to find refuge there during the long drought periods that we are currently facing due to climate change.
