The Salt de Martís (also known as Saltant d'Espolla) is a spectacular intermittent waterfall with a total drop of more than 80 meters that connects directly to the Platja d'Espolla.
It is located in the municipality of Esponellà, specifically in the neighborhood of Martís de Baix, and serves to allow the water from the lake to bridge the drop that separates the Pla de Martís from the bed of the Fluvià river.
Since it is fed by the Rec d'Espolla (the natural channel that empties the lake), most of the year it is completely dry. It only flows strongly a few days after heavy rainstorms.
The two waterfalls The rec is structured in two main sections: the Saltant Petit d'Espolla and, a few meters further down, the spectacular Saltant Gros (the Salt de Martís proper).
Once the water falls over the big jump, it flows more peacefully through a shady, very humid and green environment, full of moss and ferns. Here it forms some permanent ponds such as Gorga dels Gossos or Gorga de les Anguiles, where the water is retained even when the river dries up.
Mouth Finally, the stream discreetly discharges its waters into the Fluvià river, closing the geological cycle from which the groundwater originally came.
