01About the place
Dating from prehistory, between the 4th and 3rd millennium BC, there is a menhir in the area known as Pas de les Llebres.
This menhir is famous for the legend of "The Devil's Stone".
According to the legend, during the construction of the bridge of Ceret, the architect, feeling unable to finish the work, made a pact with the devil. The pact consisted of selling his soul if the devil could finish the bridge before midnight. Although the devil accepted, when he was heading to Ceret with the last stone, the twelve chimes sounded, and the devil melted away into hell, leaving the stone stuck in the ground, where it can now be seen. That is why the bridge of Ceret is missing a large stone in one of its buttresses.
