01About the place
A border pass at the western end of the Albera mountain range, between Pertús and La Jonquera, where the Roman Via Domitia joined the Via Augusta.
Here, Pompey erected a trophy in 71 BC to commemorate his victory in the Sertorian War, the foundations of which are preserved next to the ruins of the Priory of Panissars; ruts from ancient carts can still be seen in the ground.
