01About the place
A fortress on the Bellaguarda hill (423 m), between the Pertús and Panissars passes, on the border with La Jonquera.
It replaced a 14th-century medieval castle; the current fort, in the Vauban style and with five bastions, was built in the last third of the 17th century, after the Treaty of the Pyrenees (1659) gave the territory to France.
